Episode List

88 The Three Sprites of the Monkey God

Inu-Yasha and Co. arrive in a village where the fields have been wrecked by monkeys. The villagers who think Inu-Yasha is a dog god ask him to help, because monkeys hate dogs. When he meets up with the monkey demon he discovers that they are just little demons like Shippo. Funny episode, the monkey demons are cute and its fun to watch Inu-Yasha get so annoyed with them.

89 Nursing Battle of the Rival Lovers

On their way to locate Naraku Kagome catches a cold, while Inu-Yasha is out Sango and Miroku tell her to go home and get better. When Inu-Yasha returns with food for Kagome he is upset to find her gone and heads to her world where Hojo and Kagome's friends are visiting her and he seems to get a little jealous about Hojo. I like this episode it was sweet Inu-Yasha seems so concerned. It was sad when he saw the pictures of Kagome and her friends and Hojo was in it.

90 Sota Falls in Love

Kagome and Inu-Yasha are in the modern world and they discover that Kagome's brother Sota is in love with a classmate. This is a funny episode, I was craking up when Sota was asking Inu-Yasha for advice. When Kagome dresses Sota up he looks like Jimmy Kudo/Conan Odigawa from Case Closed.

All in all some good episodes are on this disc, nothing happens in the search for Naraku but they are funny and entertaining. I definitely plan on getting this one. For those of you who are fans of Inuyasha you should check out Ranma 1/2 or Maison Ikkoku also by Rumiko Takahashi, I liked Inuyasha and so I picked up some of her other stuff and I liked them just as much, especially Ranma 1/2 it's so funny.

The group soon discovers the real reason the cat was sent away. Shippo meets a young girl who loves the cat and helps her search for it. Cute episode Shippo is so sweet.

92 Plot of the Waking Dead

Inu-Yasha and his friends meet a woman who was resurrected from the dead, like Kikyo, by Urasue. They also meet a man who was also resurrected by Urasue and now controls an army of clay soldiers. The group tries to help the woman.

93 The Mysterious Lecherous Monk

While on their search for Naraku the group searches for a village to rest in they are confronted by villagers who know Miroku even though he claims that hes never been there before. The others don't believe him when they go to a second village and the same thing happens until the villagers say that he was just there the night before, but Miroku soon realizes who has been impersonating him and they all go looking for him. I liked this episode it was really funny. Who could blame them all for not beliving Miroku hes done it so many times before.

Some funny episodes but again no Naraku.

It's the Rage
Action 20th Century Fox R
No, it's the cast. A homeowner (Jeff Daniels) shoots an intruder, who turns out to be his business partner. A police officer (Robert Forster) suspects a setup. His wife (Joan Allen), who didn't know they even had a gun in the house, she gets a job with a reclusive computer billionaire (Gary Sinise). The billionaire's former assistant (Josh Brolin) has left the company to work in the movies, and he falls for a street waif (Anna Paquin). Daniels's lawyer (André Braugher), who is gay, also falls for the waif, much to the chagrin of his unstable partner (David Schwimmer) as well as the waif's unstable brother (Giovanni Ribisi). Based on a play by Chicago playwright Keith Reddin (who also wrote the screenplay) and directed by theater director turned first-time movie director James D. Stern, "It's the Rage" never transcends its theatrical roots. Instead of a character type, each person in the story represents a different (but equally shallow) facet of rage. It's all just an elaborate setup to preach about gun control and how our society is increasingly a society of rage. What the world needs, the movie is saying, is a little more self- control and understanding. Obviously, what it also needs is a better use of such a talented cast. "--Andy Spletzer"

James Bond: Casino Royale
Action.Adventure Sony Pictures PG-13
The most successful invigoration of a cinematic franchise since "Batman Begins, Casino Royale" offers a new Bond identity. Based on the Ian Fleming novel that introduced Agent 007 into a Cold War world, "Casino Royale" is the most brutal and viscerally exciting James Bond film since Sean Connery left Her Majesty's Secret Service. Meet the new Bond; not the same as the old Bond. Daniel Craig gives a galvanizing performance as the freshly minted double-0 agent. Suave, yes, but also a "blunt instrument," reckless, and possessed with an ego that compromises his judgment during his first mission to root out the mastermind behind an operation that funds international terrorists. In classic Bond film tradition, his global itinerary takes him to far-flung locales, including Uganda, Madagascar, the Bahamas (that's more like it), and Montenegro, where he is pitted against his nemesis in a poker game, with hundreds of millions in the pot. The stakes get even higher when Bond lets down his "armor" and falls in love with Vesper (Eva Green), the ravishing banker's representative fronting him the money.

For longtime fans of the franchise, "Casino Royale" offers some retro kicks. Bond wins his iconic Astin-Martin at the gaming table, and when a bartender asks if he wants his martini "shaken or stirred," he disdainfully replies, "Do I look like I give a damn?" There's no Moneypenny or "Q," but Dame Judi Dench is back as the exasperated M, who one senses, admires Bond's "bloody cheek." A Bond film is only as good as its villain, and Mads Mikkelsen as Le Chiffre, who weeps blood, is a sinister dandy. From its punishing violence and virtuoso action sequences to its romance, "Casino Royale" is a Bond film that, in the words of one character, makes you feel it, particularly during an excruciating torture sequence. Double-0s, Bond observes early on, "have a short life expectancy." But with Craig, there is new life in the old franchise yet, as well as genuine anticipation for the next one when, at last, the signature James Bond theme kicks in following the best last line ever in any Bond film. To quote Goldie Hawn in "Private Benjamin", now I know what I've been faking all these years. "--Donald Liebenson "

James Bond: For Your Eyes Only
Action.Adventure MGM (Video & DVD) PG
After a ship sunk off the coast of Albania, the world's superpowers begin a feverish search for its valuable lost cargo: the powerful ATAC system, which will give its bearer unlimited control over Polaris nuclear submarines. As Bond joins the search, he suspects the suave Kristatos (Julian Glover) of seizing the device. The competition between nations grows more deadly by the moment, but Bond finds an ally in the beautiful Melina Havelock (Caroline Bouquet), who blames Kristatos for the death of her parents. The non-stop action includes automobile chases, thrilling underwater battles, and even a breathtaking tour over razor-sharp coral reefs. But all of this is merely a prelude to 007's cliffhanging assault of a magnificent mountaintop fortress. "-- Robert Lynch"

James Bond: Goldeneye
Action.Adventure MGM (Video & DVD) PG-13
The 18th James Bond adventure was a runaway box-office success when released in 1995, thanks to the arrival of Pierce Brosnan as the fifth actor (following the departure of Timothy Dalton) to play the suave, danger-loving Agent 007. This James Bond is a bit more vulnerable and psychologically complex--and just a shade more politically correct--but he's still a formally attired playboy at heart, with a lovely Russian beauty (Izabella Scorupco) as his sexy ally against a cadre of renegade Russians bent on--what else?--global domination. There's also a seductive villainous with the suggestive name of Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen), and the great actress Judi Dench makes her first appearance as Bond's superior, M, who wisecracks about 007's "dinosaur" status as a globetrotting sexist. All in all, this action-packed Bond adventure provided a much-needed boost the long-running movie series, revitalizing the 007 franchise for the turn of the millennium. "--Jeff Shannon"

James Bond: Ultimate Edition - Vol. 1
Action.Adventure MGM (Video & DVD) PG
It should have been easy. All the Bond movies are remastered beautifully by Lowry Digital, loads of new extras are added (including cuts scenes), and the soundtracks are remixed in 5.1. These really are the "Ultimate" James Bond DVDs. But when U.S. fans and consumers lined up to buy, there was a twist.

Unlike the rest of the world, here in the U.S. the movies are not being sold individually. They only come in four sets of five movies in a scrambled order so, that's right, you can't just buy the early Connery or the Moore films, you sneaky consumer you. You have to buy them ALL. It gets worse. The movies come in slim cases - you know, the ones associated with bargain bin DVDs and TV series. No double cases with cardboard sleeves and raised lettering as in the UK. Finally, the booklets. No room inside those slim cases, so they just come shoved together in the side of the box -- $89.98 please.

This combo packaging was what MGM Homes Video did the last time they released the Bonds on DVD, but this time it has really gotten the ire of consumers and fans. Even I was pretty turned off and considered giving these a miss. However, once I got past the packaging and put my favorite Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me (which actually comes in Vol. 2--but I will let it represent all the restorations here), into my DVD player, all objections fell away.

The menu gave me chills!

I was reminded of what it was like to watch The Spy Who Loved Me for the first time on a letterbox laserdisc after a lifetime of watching (and learning) the movie on TV and VHS. I was watching a whole a new movie. The clarity of the picture brought out details I've never seen before; the magnifying glass on Gogal's desk, Bond's ski poles falling in the final shot, the topless centerfold on the wall of the Ranger submarine (don't tell me I just been missing that for 30 years). Sets somehow look bigger and more lush. The depth of focus looks sharper and deeper (is that possible?). The color is now bright and vibrant. Frankly, I've always found TSWLM to be a little "muddy" and just accepted that's what it's supposed to look like. It is a `70s movie after all. Well, Spy is "muddy" no more. It actually looks HD!

I don't know how these movies could look better. In fact, I don't think I want them to look better. When one is able to count Barbara Bach's nose hairs, it may kill the fantasy.

Unfortunately, I don't have 5.1, so I can't judge the surround sound in what I'm sure is all its glory. However, my concern was a rumor out of the UK that the new mixes changed the original balance between effects/music/dialog -- that the movies sounded different. Well, I know TSWLM inside out and the mix sounded exactly the same to me -- only brighter and cleaner. I also checked out a few key places on Diamonds Are Forever (from this volume) where I think the sound mix is especially brilliant, and those sounded the same as well. So I'm going to say this mix issue is a myth.

Another thing that makes me VERY happy is the UA logo is back on (some of) the films. Not the original logo, which would have been cool, but at least there's a UA logo there. I think it's important that people know UA was the studio responsible for James Bond, not MGM (who only came into the picture in the 1980s after MGM and UA merged).

So, are these the Ultimate Bond DVDs? Absolutely! Should they be purchased despite the funky packaging? That's up to you. But know this really is a case where good things -- no, great things! -- come in bad packaging.
